Find the perfect film this Easter

WHEN: In cinemas 16th March

STARS: Domhnall Gleeson, Rose Byrne, James Corden (voice), Margot Robbie (voice)

PLOT: Hoppy-go-lucky rabbit Peter and his siblings Flopsy, Mopsy and Cotton-tail wage war against the newly moved-in Mr. McGregor, after the young farmer makes it clear that they’re not welcome in his vegetable garden. The only thing stopping Mr. McGregor from wiping out his fluffy adversaries for good, in fact, is his beautiful next door neighbour: the kindly, animal-loving Bea. Bea wants them all to live in harmony, but Peter and McGregor have other ideas!

ODEON VERDICT: A funny and fast-paced adventure that’s packed with heart.

IDEAL FOR: Fans of Beatrix Potter’s blue-jacketed little hero, as well as those looking for a hearty chuckle.

WHEN: In cinemas 23rd March

STARS: Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey, Chris Pine, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mindy Kaling, Storm Reid

PLOT: Based on Madeleine L’Engle’s bestselling science fiction fantasy novel from 1962, this wondrous story sees Chris Pine’s pioneering scientist mysteriously disappearing just as he’s on the verge of discovering a new form of space travel.

It’s up to his daughter Meg, her brother Charlie and Meg’s friend Calvin to find him, leading to a universe-hopping adventure fraught with peril.

ODEON VERDICT: A hugely exciting and visually stunning tale that more than does justice to L’Engle’s seminal novel.

IDEAL FOR: Young adventurers.

WHEN: In cinemas 30th March

VOICES: Jim Gaffigan, Zendaya, Stephen Fry, Jennifer Grey

PLOT: This warmhearted and witty animation sees a smart-mouthed bachelor goose named Peng refusing to practise for his flock’s upcoming migration because he already thinks he’s got it nailed.

Injured as a result and unable to fly south for the winter, Peng takes cute brother and sister ducklings Chi and Chao under his wing, after the little guys get separated from their parents. Get ready for an adventure of epic proportions in which the previously indifferent Peng learns a thing or two about family values.

ODEON VERDICT: You’ll quack up laughing!

IDEAL FOR: Younger members of the family.

WHEN: In cinemas 16th March

CAST: Alicia Vikander, Walton Goggins, Dominic West, Kristin Scott-Thomas

PLOT: Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished when she was scarcely a teen. Determined to forge her own path, she refuses to take the reins of her father's global empire just as staunchly as she rejects the idea that he's truly gone.

Going explicitly against his final wishes, she leaves everything she knows behind in search of her dad's last-known destination: a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan.  But her mission will not be an easy one....

ODEON VERDICT: Who said that videogames are mainly for boys? Most films based on a videogame with a heroine (see The Resident Evil saga and Silent Hill) have made more money and got more success than any with a male lead, and Tomb Raider is going to confirm this legacy with a completely new approach...

IDEAL FOR: Someone who enjoys a real atmosphere and gripping storyline along with great action scenes.

WHEN: In cinemas 29th March

STARS: Tye Sheridan, Mark Rylance, Ben Mendelsohn

PLOT: The year is 2044 and the world is in trouble. Climate change and over-population have devastated the planet and people are hungry, helpless and living like sardines. Their one respite is the OASIS, an incredible virtual reality world that doubles as a massive multiplayer online role-playing game.

Our adventure begins when the game’s creator James Halliday dies and leaves behind a challenge: somewhere inside the OASIS is a hidden object, an ‘Easter Egg’. Whoever finds it will inherit Halliday’s vast fortune...

ODEON VERDICT: With jaw-dropping special effects (60% of the movie is set within the astonishing OASIS) and an exciting race-against-time storyline, this is one of the most epic films you’ll see this year – or any year!

IDEAL FOR: Tech-mad kids, 1980s aficionados and fans of Cline’s stupendous novel!

WHEN: In cinemas 23rd March

STARS: John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Charlie Day

PLOT: Jake Pentecost is a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to secure humanity's victory against the monstrous Kaiju. Jake has since abandoned his training only to become caught up in a criminal underworld.

But when an even more unstoppable threat is unleashed to tear through cities and bring the world to its knees, Jake is given one last chance by his estranged sister, Mako Mori, to live up to his father's legacy.

ODEON VERDICT:  Produced by fresh Oscar winner Guillermo del Toro (who directed the first film), starring Star Wars favorite John Boyega anduprising star Scott Eastwood, and a set of new awesome Jaegers. Do you really need more for an entertaining sci-fi action film?

IDEAL FOR:  Fans of dazzling visual spectacle that combines top-notch visual effects with a lot of fun in a way that should make any Michael Bay ashamed...

WHEN: In cinemas 6th April

STARS: Nick Robinson, Jennifer Garner, Josh Duhamel

PLOT: Based on Becky Albertalli’s excellent novel Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, this terrific comedy drama sees a closeted gay teenager named Simon coming to terms with his sexuality with help from an anonymous online pen pal named Blue.

Unfortunately, a devious classmate gets hold of Simon’s tell-all emails and reveals his secret to the entire school, forcing Simon to confront his feelings – and family.

ODEON VERDICT: A sweet and affecting coming-of-ager with a wonderful performance from Nick Robinson as Simon.

IDEAL FOR: Older teens and those hoping for their own great love story.

WHEN: In cinemas 30th March

VOICES: Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Greta Gerwig, Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum, Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton, Liev Schreiber

PLOT: In near-future Japan, a young boy named Atari sets out on an incredible journey to find his beloved dog, Spots. With an outbreak of canine flu ripping through the region, Spots, along with every other dog in the city of Megasaki has been quarantined on a remote island by the sinister Mayor Kobayashi.

Can our young hero, with help from several other stranded mutts, rescue his best friend?

ODEON VERDICT: Ingenious, witty and gorgeously animated, you’d be barking mad to miss this one!

IDEAL FOR: Followers of the quirky work of Wes Anderson (he directed this one) and those looking for something a little out of the ordinary.

WHEN: In cinemas 16th March

CAST: Andy Quirke, Ruth McCabe, Simon Delaney, Tina Kellegher.

PLOT: Two identical twin brothers are separated not long after birth.  One of the boys, Damo, is left to grow up on the mean streets of Dublin to be raised by his maternal Grandmother, Grano, while the other, Ivor, is given a life of wealth and luxury in Dublin’s affluent Foxrock by parents who shower their son with money and little else.

The film sees Damo and Ivor embark on the mother of all adventures across Ireland to find the last piece of their family puzzle, their long-lost brother John Joe.

ODEON VERDICT: Damo & Ivor are well-known characters from the massively popular satirical comedy about the hilarious adventures of a non-ordinary family.  Taking directly from the last TV series and breaking into the big screen, the film promises a lot of laughs!

IDEAL FOR: Whoever needs some naughty sense of humor and wants to leave the kids at home!
