Firstly, if you have never read 2000AD - some of this review won't make sense. But irrelevant of this, Dredd is a good film. Whilst not completely faithful to the source material (the aforementioned 2000AD) - readers will be pleased to hear that unlike the Stallone version Dredd does not remove his helmet! (a small thing you might think - but it caused uproar at the time!). The story line is also very close to a Dredd comic, with Urban very much capturing Dredd's complete faith in his ability to met out justice. A little on the eccentric side (as is the comic) this is a guts and gore vision of the future. Great film for mature comic readers and sci-fi lovers alike.

This film is utter genius and so is the soundtrack. Karl Urban was a perfect choice for the role and did a terrific job, i was so happy that he was humble enough to keep the helmet on throughout. Stallone made a terrible error in 95 by removing the helmet for most of the film. Dredd removing his helmet is like the STIG removing his, it simply destroys the mythology. Thirlby was equally superb and she also ticked all the boxes in re-creating the character of infamous Anderson. Sequels to this movie is essential, what we have here is the potential for a cult classic, an all new saga which actually has substance instead of the last few years of teeny emo vampires, softy hobbits and naff cgi stormtroopers. i am hearing rumours of 2 potential sequels one of which will introduce the dark judges to the screen.I also hear a making of Rogue Trooper is in the works too. Exciting times ahead and it is the right time now with the quality of movie effects available to pull out these fantastic 2000AD stories and give them a rebirth. My advice is people buy these films and soundtracks, not pirate, decent numbers and revenues will justify continued production, its simple economics.
