What's the plot?
Ang Lee brings Yann Martel’s international best-seller to the big screen in ‘Life of Pi’, the magical tale of a young Indian boy adrift on a boat in the Pacific Ocean with a Bengal tiger.

The incredible story follows the unlikely travelling companions, along with various other animal survivors of the ship wreck, through 227 days in a lifeboat.

Using flashbacks and fantasy sequences, ‘The Life of Pi’ explains what led to their epic voyage and details the strange events that transpire.
IFCO Consumer Advice

The Special FX are truly incredible, not only the animals but the storm scenes on the ship and boat.

The acting is poor but it doesn't matter as you are enthralled by the story and the visuals.

There is a heavy religious theme to the movie. The message seemed to be 'you can either look at the world scientifically, or you can pretend there is something more and make up a story out of it'. This is made explicit near the end of the movie when they ask you 'do you prefer story A or story B?'. The suggestion is that you either choose to look at things scientifically (A) or religiously (B), but it doesn't really matter either way so why not go down the interesting made-up-story path.

I think this is quite an astute take on religion, however I think I would be offended by it if I was a religious person!

I liked how they used 3D in this movie. They use 3D infrequently and so it has great effect when they pull it out. Many 3D movies just throw it down your throat non-stop and it gets very irritating (e.g. The Hobbit).

I saw the trailer and thought it would be a good film to see. I read a few reviews in the papers that said it was rubbish. So I decided to go in with an open mind. Although a fictional story the special effects were brilliant. The animals are computer generated you forget that after a while. The relationships, thoughts and ideas of individual characters are true to life. We all have to make decisions about ourselves and where we want to be. Life throws us into situations that can confuse us. There are some sad moments but also some very funny moments. It is a film that is thought provoking and you can't help but go away and ponder on the things you have just seen.
