When the opera opens she is hosting a lavish party for her many admirers. One of them, Alfredo Germont, manages to catch her alone and confesses his love to her. She has heard such declarations many times before, but this young man intrigues her. But can their two very different lives be reconciled or is too much standing in the way of their love?
