About this Film

A Street Cat Named Bob

ODEON says...
James is homeless, a recovering drug addict, and desperate to turn his life around. But he’s also alone and friendless – at least until he meets ‘A Street Cat Named Bob’.

Taking a bath in a house his social worker found for him, he hears someone clattering about in another room. Discovering that it’s just a stray ginger tomcat, James adopts him, names him Bob, and soon finds that having an animal companion makes a huge difference to his life.

‘A Street Cat Named Bob’ is a heartwarming true story based on the book by James Bowen, owner of the real-life Bob.

“ Charming and life-affirming ”

3 Stars
“ Bob’s weapons-grade cuteness is almost enough to power this slight but warm-hearted film ”

3 Stars
“ You’ll need a heart of stone (or an extreme allergy to cats) not to be moved by the combination here of Loach-like realism, Dickensian sentimentality... [and] the big-eyed tabby meowing in the rain ”

Cat is the Star

Reviewer: charles0207Date: 2017-01-10

This is a typical contemporary British film. It is set against a background of British social malaise. In the struggle between good and evil, good prevails. Angels are at work. Romance ignites. And the affinity between man and cat continues. All the pieces fit together. The cat is the star.

Sickly sweet

I was dragged along by a cat loving friend, not my type of film at all. It's sickly sweet, the singing is toe curlingly bad and the acting isn't much better. Great movie for anyone under 14.

Havent yet managed to catch this, but have read book, and my son read childrens version of book, and as it begins and moves over to next xmas,WHY,OH WHY ARE NO CINEMAS SHOWING IT AS A CHRISTMAS FILM?? Am sure with kids on holidays and it being such a feelgood film,it would have been an absolute smash hit over the christmas season, giving more people a chance to view it.(nothing much else cinemas are showing over christmas is making me want to trail out in the cold to be fleeced for an ever expensive ticket & not even feel better, anyway)

Sorry but the film was very disappointing. Loved seeing Bob I have to say. Read all the books and loved each one of them. The film for some reason didn't come up to the books standard. I know everyone loves Bob as I do but this film was average.
