About this Film

Set in a future America, 'Divergent' follows Beatrice 'Tris' Prior, an outcast teenager harbouring a dangerous and potentially life-threatening secret.

In a futuristic version of Chicago, there is a system in place that keeps the population segregated in five ideological factions. Tris discovers that she doesn't slot in easily to one group and is therefore 'Divergent'. Now, her life is imminent danger as leader Jeanine Matthews (Kate Winslet) plans to wipe out those who can't be classified.

'Divergent' is based on the best-selling sci-fi book series by Veronica Roth.

Total Film - 3/5 Stars

Lights, camera, faction

Hollywood's YA obsession continues unabated, and for viewers still famished after two servings of The Hunger Games, here’s Divergent. Neil Burger’s movie follows Games’ blueprint to the letter: female teen lead coming of age in a dystopian future, with revolution and romance in the air. And there’s a hit trilogy of books, by Veronica Roth, to draw from.

Where The Breakfast Club once divided teens into brain/athlete/princess/criminal/basket case, Roth puts the adolescent notion of finding your place into a political context. Set in Chicago, 150 years into the future and a century after a war ravaged the land, a system is now in place to keep the peace, dividing society into five factions: Erudite, Candor, Dauntless, Abnegation and Amity.

I can't believe people didn't like this! I went to watch this movie, and it was the best decision I have made in a very long time, about movies. I have read all of the books, now, and am excited to see the next sequel, Insurgent.

Very unsuitable for 12 year olds. Extreme violence in this age when 13 and 15 year olds so why feed their minds which such violence? Nothing close to the novel. A great shocker for my 12 year old who was crazy over the novel.

I love this film so much. I have watched it like 5 times and it still takes my breath away. I have read all the books which are equally as good. Shailene Woodley and Theo James are amazing and beautiful actors anyway so they have done an amazing job!
