Total Film - 4/5 Stars

That difficult second film….

It’s a generally accepted rule that stories require a beginning, a middle and an end (even if Jean-Luc Godard felt that they didn’t necessarily have to be in that order). But do those rules apply if you’re stretching a single story over three epic films? Fans of the book will be awaiting several key episodes that serve as highlights: a brief stop-off for breakfast with skin-changing bear-man Beorn, a run-in with the spiders of Mirkwood, the rollercoaster barrel escape (which was originally intended to close the first act). Jackson’s eye for inventive action is undiminished, and when he gets a set-piece in full flow, there are few who can match him for breathless originality.

Loved this even more than the first part of the story. Imax 3d was brilliant as was the sound, Peter Jackson has done it again with this and i cannot wait to see the final installment when it hits christmas 2014.

Peter Jackson returns with his usual might, in the latest Hobbit instalment....

A mess

No character growth. 12 dwarfs with no personality and little to define who each of them are. The head dwarf just a remaster of Aragon. Bilbo bagins a wet blanket of a character showing how poor an actor Martin freeman is. Dull, unfunny, makes little sense, Long and not worth seeing in the cinema I am afraid.

Too much?

Good film, but I felt that the narrative was somewhat compromised by too many over the top action/chase scenes. There are only so many orcs you can see slaughtered by a small group of seemingly indestructible characters.
