Summer of 1939. Zosia (Michalina ?abacz) is a young Polish girl who is deeply in love with a Ukrainian, Petro (Wasyl Wasylik). They great love will be put to the test, when her father decides to marry her to wealthy widower Skiba (Arkadiusz Jakubik).
Right after the wedding she is left alone because her husband is drafted to the Polish army for the war with Germany. Meanwhile tensions between living side by side Jews, Poles and Ukrainians grow. The girl is a witness to an increasing number of acts of violence. The culmination of the tensions will be a slaughter of the Polish people by ruthless bandits of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army and Polish actions of self-defense.
