Total Film - 3/5 Stars

The time traveller's strife

After dominating the landscape of British middle-of-the-road romcoms, Notting Hill and Four Weddings writer Richard Curtis returns with just his third film as director.

Fortunately, About Time is more coherent and less stick-your-fingers-down-your-throat than either of its predecessors, Love Actually or The Boat That Rocked. Yes, it’s a romance, but one that feels a little more soulful.

This is a real father/son movie with all the bonding and emotion that is equally as strong as the female version but not often movie material. In this family the male members can travel back in their own time and effectively change things they've done. Amazing of course. Think what we'd do differently. But it also explores whether we should, whether we need to or whether we should look around and enjoy what's under our noses because there will be a time when, even if you had the ability to travel, there's no going back. Good beginning, good ending and a little over long in the middle it was a fine film well worth watching with a loved one or a loved one in mind. Bill Nighy was of course excellent and although I don't know the ginger haired lead, what a great guy. Good looking and sexy in a non goodlooking, not sexy way! They made for a great and believable father and son. 3.5*

After a bit of a slow start, the story evolves into a lovely and thought provoking one. My hubby came along, and enjoyed it more than me.
